March Summit & Park County Community Insider

Welcome to our March edition of the Summit and Park County Community Insider! With the weather warming slightly and the snowpack at perfection, this is a great time to hit the ski slopes. And while March also offers many off-the-mountain activities, we’re excited to see that the town of Silverthorne is bringing back the fifth annual First Friday Rail Jam on the 4th! Additionally, for the tenth year, Keystone is celebrating its Winter Bluegrass Weekend. Keep reading for all the details and a few other activities we think you’ll enjoy.

First Friday Rail Jam in Silverthorne

Feeling competitive? There’s still time to register for First Friday Rail Jam (click here)! Whether you want to compete for the $2,500 cash purse and additional prizes or if you prefer to enjoy the event cheering from the sidelines, you’ll be sure to have a good time. On March 4th, from 5-8:30 p.m. you can enjoy live music, food and beverages from Frisco Funk Collective, Enza’s Delicatessen & Market, and Breckenridge Distillery on the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center Lawn. Cheer on the over 100 athletes as they compete for prizes in four different categories.

You’ll also see the Silverthorne Elementary School there raising money for their ski and ride program. This program provides all children in grades 3-5 three days of skiing or snowboarding lessons and rentals free of charge. It’s an amazing local program and an opportunity to not only give back to the community but also a chance to bid on a snowboard, live painted at the event, by local artist Ericka Donaghy

Keystones Winter Bluegrass Weekend at Warren Station

Have you had the opportunity to enjoy an event at the Warren Station in River Run Village? Not only is this a beautiful place to hold your own private event, but they host an array of public festivals and concerts throughout the year as well. And if you haven’t had the opportunity yet, March offers several.

Set below the grandeur of Keystone Mountain, the Warren Station offers a unique design and beautiful space to enjoy some live music. On March 11-12th they will be featuring several local sting bands including Elle Michelle’s Grateful Holler on Friday and Groundscore and High Country Hustle on Saturday. You can pick up your tickets for one or both days on their website (follow this link) and take a look at the other upcoming events that they’re holding!

Local Arts & Entertainment in Breckenridge

unnamed 1

If you’d like to spend a weekend in a smaller, more intimate crowd we offer two suggestions for you: take an art class or workshop at the Breckenridge Creative Arts (BCA) – or BreckCreate for short – or take in a live theater production from Breckenridge Backstage Theater.

BreckCreate offers everything from children’s art classes to beginners metalsmithing, crochet, and even glassblowing. And that’s just a few offered in the month of March. You can find their full calendar and details on their website

Breckenridge Backstage Theater is the oldest year-round theater company on Colorado’s Western Slope, and this great addition to our local arts program is back after a long pandemic break. Running March 9 through April 2 you can catch their performance of Rumors by Neil Simon and later this summer you’ll be able to see their production of The Play That Goes Wrong. Go here to get tickets!
