January 2023 Summit and Park County Community Insider

Happy New Year and welcome to the January 2023 Summit and Park County Community Insider. Winter is well underway and while the holiday break has come to a close there are still many local events to keep you entertained. Here’s a highlight reel of a few you might find interesting.

International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge

unnamed

Every year in January, Breckenridge hosts the International Snow Sculpture Championships in the Riverwalk Center downtown. Gifted artists from all over gather to transform 20-ton blocks of snow into temporary works of art.

The process begins well before any sculpting actually takes place. The week before “Sculpting Week” (January 23-Feb 1st), movers bring in the snow blocks that need time to settle under their own weight before the artists can get to work. We suggest planning a trip downtown during the evening and after the 26th. This is because the sculptures are especially magical with the LED light displays at night and you’ll have the opportunity to cast your vote for a favorite starting on January 26th. Voting closes on the 29th at noon.

Keystone’s Winter Bluegrass Weekend

Celebrating its 11th year on January 27th and 28th, Keystone’s Winter Bluegrass Weekend brings acoustic roots and mountain culture to Warren Station for two nights. Each evening features a talented lineup of some of Colorado’s best string bands and culminates with headliners the Sweet Lillies on Friday and Andy Thorn & Friends on Saturday. Tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite and the shows start at 7:30. Get your tickets by clicking here

The tour sits on 2,000 acres and is guaranteed to give you a great experience. It features more than 50 historic gold mines, many of which are visible as you go through the course.

Winter Zipline Tours are offered at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 3:00 pm. Complimentary transportation is offered from Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Frisco, Silverthorne, and Dillon, Colorado on a limited basis.

The operation also offers a convenient shuttle for easy winter-time access from the base area to the top of the course. And don’t worry, getting from platform to platform is easy too!
